Rosie is just a big tent, no amenities, no onboard toilet, just mostly beds, a queen on the end nearest you in the picture. Until my wife became ill in 2015 we logged thousands of miles and hundreds of camps. The number one criterion was the washrooms. Camps vary wildly. We started staying more often in KOAs (Kampgrounds of America the K is unfortunate but it was cute at the time). I know; KOAs are reputed to be parking lots, awful, horrible, not even “real” camping, and maybe some of that is true if you have an 80-foot double-decker bus. But you can’t get one of those behemoths into a site like this, but Rosie can. There would be times when there was just no choice, but you could eat off the floors of the bathrooms in Pasco KOA. That mattered a lot to my wife. And me!

We joined KOA and started making reservations along the way as we traveled. WiFI was an incredible boon. A laptop aboard and we could set up the next three nights, even making special requests online. KOA ALWAYS has clean bathrooms; they are inspected by corporate and if they don’t pass muster, they either fix it or they get booted out of the system. We always got Rose into the waybacks away from the behemoths. Almost all KOAs support tent camping, sometimes having separate grounds so the tenters can’t even see the Grand Fleet. Rose is so tiny she often camped among the tenters. She loved that.

Everyone’s saying why save a chicken..why do we think we can decide which animals are worth saving. If this was a dog you’d be all for it when there is not much of a difference at all. All animals feel and have emotion. We raised bantams and our neighbors’ dog busted into their little coop one winter and killed a few. I found one frozen in the snow out by the coop and I thought it was dead but as I picked it up to dispose of it before the kids seen it one of its eyes blinked. It was so frozen it had ice around its feet and my husband swore I was crazy and that it was dead. I took it inside and brought it back from death with a hairdryer.
